So far, here at iGadgetJunkie, we've reviewed a couple of task management apps ranging in price from $19.99 to $9.99, but with so many task management apps in the iTunes store its good to compare a few before choosing which one is right for you. Actions, regularly priced at $9.99, provides all of the basic necessities to improve your productivity and also adds a nice visual task tracker that makes sure that not one day passes by without you accomplishing your tasks. Although it definitely lacks some of the extra features of its competitors, such as online synchronization and location awareness, its simplicity works in its favor. Currently, you can find the Actions app on sale for $2.99 at the iTunes store making it just the right price for this basic task management app. When you first open Actions, you are greeted with a very simple interface of 5 choices: Inbox, Context, Projects, Attention, and More. Like other task management apps, Actions uses the Inbox to show you actions that have been added, but are not assigned to any particular Context. On the Context page, you are able to categorize each task into different folders such as: Home, Work, Online, Phone, Errands, and any other folder you wish to add. Also, each task can be placed as part of a bigger Project. This is a nice set-up that allows you to see how many tasks you have left until a specific project is complete. The Attention feature alerts you when a certain Project has stalled, meaning that you have completed all of the actions in a particular Project but have not labeled that Project as completed. The Attention alert will go away once you've added a new task for the project or labeled the project as completed or waiting (on hold). In those first 4 features, Actions is able to neatly organize a pretty basic yet powerful task management application for you iPhone or iPod Touch.
The one extra feature of Actions that I particularly like is hidden in the More section. The feature, called Chain, shows you a calendar of the current month with each date that you completed a task circled with a chain icon. The more consecutive dates you have with a completed task, the longer the chain. When a day goes by with no completed tasks, the chain is broken. I found this to be a very simple and useful way to see my productivity and encourage me to not let a day pass without accomplishing at least one task. Also behind the More section is a Search feature that allows you to search through all of the current and past Contexts, Projects and Tasks that you have added. Another neat feature of the More section is that you can edit the entire layout of the program, which allows you to chose which features appear on the opening page.
As I've mentioned in a past review of task management apps, the one that works best for you is going to be the most helpful app. If the simplicity of Actions seems like enough to help you be productive, then it just may be the one for you. However, if you have a hard time using the iPhone/iPod keyboard for entering tasks and would prefer to do it on your computer and have your app sync up, then you should look to another app. I personally believe that Actions provides everything you need without any of the extra complications and distractions but is unfortunately priced way too high. Luckily, as I said earlier, until June 7th you can get Actions at the sale price of $2.99. So if you think Actions will help you, then I highly recommend you download this app at this special low price, but if you miss out on this sale you may want to also download a money management app to make sure you don't spend all your hard earned cash on overpriced apps.
